Name: Mercy
Job: Business Analyst & IT Risk Engineer

What does a Business Analyst & IT Risk Engineer do at ING?

I currently wear two hats. As a Business Analyst, I serve as the bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams. As an IT Risk Engineer, I ensure our solutions comply with security and regulatory standards.
As part of the ITP Trainee Program at ING NL, I am currently on a short-term assignment (STA) with ING Manila, Philippines. The work schedule here is quite flexible, with people starting at different times depending on their teams and projects.

Here’s what a day in Mercy's life looks like!

10-11AM:
My commute to the office is just a 5-minute walk, since I live nearby. I usually start my day by clearing my inbox, reviewing and responding to emails, then checking my calendar, aligning priorities and writing down my to-do list for the day.

11AM-12PM:
I dedicate focused time to IT Risk–related tasks.

12-1PM:
I enjoy lunch and a short walk with colleagues.

1-1:30PM:
During the daily stand-up meeting, I share updates on my BA deliverables and IT Risk projects with the team. It’s also an opportunity to raise any impediments or blockers.

1:30-2PM:
Follow up with project stakeholders.

2-2:30PM:
Join the weekly pulse check meeting.

2:30-3PM:
Attend IT Risk meeting to review and discuss ongoing project efforts.

3-4PM:
Focus time on BA-related tasks and prepare for a workshop.

4-5PM:
Facilitate a project workshop with Local Finance and Accounting stakeholders to gather requirements for a new initiative, map current pain points, and translate them into technical requirements.

5-5:30PM:
Review and edit workshop notes, summarize findings, update requirements, and highlight key action items to share with the team.

5:30-6PM:
Coffee chat and walk with a colleague.

6-7PM:
Update emails, review completed tasks against my to-do list from the morning, and draft priorities for tomorrow. End the day with some chit-chat with colleagues before heading out.

How do you unwind at the end of the day?

It really depends on the day. Sometimes I meet up with friends, while other times I head home for dinner, watch a movie, catch up with my family, or read a book. I also enjoy going for a swim or planning a trip, as I love traveling.

What do you love about your job and your employer?

I really appreciate the opportunity to gain exposure to different roles and perspectives, learn new things, and take on challenges that push me out of my comfort zone. These experiences allow me to develop a wide range of skills and grow every day. Overall, I enjoy ING’s culture:the collaboration, support, and openness, whether in the Netherlands, the Philippines, or anywhere else the company operates.
