Name: Safaa
Job: Software Consultant

What do you do in your role as a Software Consultant?

I help organisations solve their technology challenges by analysing their needs and designing tailored solutions. My days blend technical problem-solving with client collaboration, whether I'm advising on technology choices, reviewing code, or implementing best practices. Each project brings unique puzzles to solve and the satisfaction of seeing ideas transform into working solutions.

Here’s what a day in Safaa's life looks like!

9-10 AM:
I started my day by checking emails and reviewing my calendar over coffee. We had our daily stand-up meeting where the team shared updates on completed work and planned tasks for the day. It's a quick 15-minute sync to keep everyone aligned before diving into our individual work. Then I headed to the office.

10-11 AM:
Today was sprint planning day, so we had our sprint review meeting where we demonstrated the features we'd completed over the past two weeks to stakeholders. It's always rewarding to show the progress we've made and get feedback on our work.

11 AM -12 PM:
We followed this with our sprint retrospective, a team discussion about what went well, what could be improved, and how we could work better together. These hour-long sessions help us continuously refine our processes and collaboration.

12-1 PM:
Lunch break with the team. Sprint planning days are quite meeting-heavy, so it was nice to have a more relaxed conversation with colleagues and recharge before the afternoon sessions.

1-2 PM:
Sprint planning session where we reviewed and estimated the work for the next two weeks. We discussed technical requirements, identified potential challenges, and committed to what we could realistically deliver as a team.

2-3 PM:
We had a focused meeting on writing user stories: These are simple descriptions of features from the user's perspective (like "As a customer, I want to track my order so I can know when it will arrive"). These kind sof meetings help ensure we're building what actually matters to end users.

3-4 PM:
I started analysing my assigned user story, breaking down what needed to be done technically and identifying any dependencies or potential issues. This analysis phase is crucial for understanding the full scope before jumping into development.

4-5 PM:
I documented my analysis and had it reviewed by colleagues and our managing architect. Having fresh eyes on the approach helps catch things I might have missed and ensures we're following best practices.

5-6PM:
After having the analysis approved, I moved on to analysing another user story. I started breaking down the technical requirements and identifying what needed to be done, continuing the preparation work for our upcoming sprint tasks.

How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I enjoy walking, reading books or playing video games after I get off work.

What do you love about your job and your employer?
I love the variety my role brings: Every client and project presents new challenges that keep me constantly learning. The problem-solving aspect is incredibly rewarding, especially when I can turn complex technical issues into clear solutions that create real business value. I also appreciate Netcompany's collaborative culture and focus on professional development. Despite being a large consultancy, there's a supportive atmosphere where talented colleagues are always willing to share knowledge and help you grow.
